Your questions answered

Most people new to boating holidays wonder what life on board will be like, so we've put together a few answers to the more common queries:

Home from home! You'll find separate cabins for sleeping, washing and cooking, plus there's a sitting/dining area on every boat, and at least one toilet and shower.

There is hot and cold running water at the turn of a tap.

Bring your electric razor along, but other appliances like hair dryers are not compatible with the electricity supply. We have special hair dryers and hair straighteners available on loan, no charge.

Galleys are fully equipped with pots and pans, crockery and cutlery.

Bed linen and quilts are provided, but please bring your own towels (unless you're an overseas visitor).

Every boat has heating in all the main cabins; many have warm air central heating or domestic radiators.

No need to be nervous if you're a first-timer! One of our friendly instructors will give you training on the boat's controls, steering, mooring and maintenance, and will take you out for a trial run before you leave our boatyard.

Safety first! Please do wear the free buoyancy jackets we supply. Pets can also be provided with free specialised buoyancy aids.

You can travel at up to 6 mph, depending on the speed limits. There are heavy fines for speeding, and with this in mind we have managed our engines so that they won't go much above 6 mph; however, in lower restriction areas (usually 4 or 5 mph) please bear this in mind, and obey the law.

You can moor alongside any one of the many free wharfs and staithes along the riverbanks. Only a few marinas and local authority moorings may charge a few pounds per night's stay. Or if you've hired a dinghy you can moor out!

A few basic rules: Keep right, give way to sailing vessels, and obey the speed limits.
Please do respect other river users, including when playing music or the television.

In the unlikely event that you may require assistance, simply call our 24-hour helpline for immediate aid.
